Community jotting
In our research we found that mobile note takers often want to share their thoughts, ideas and other notions conveyed in their jottings. We added two key features to cater for this need:
- Shared pinboards
- Jotting via Twitter
Shared Pinboards
With ThumbJot, you can create pinboards and use these to collect notes in one place. It could be a topic, such as ‘Biz Ideas’ or ‘Shopping Lists.’ It can be anything you like. You can also tag notes within pinboards in order to add an extra degree of flexibility in managing and retrieving jots. It’s entirely up to you. Pinboards can be shared with other users. Jots added to shared pinboards are visible to all those sharing the board. Notes can be edited by the originator or commented upon by the other sharers. This feature is intended for lightweight sharing of jots via a few friends, family members or colleagues. They’re not intended for use as heavy traffic bulletin boards.
Tweets on Twitter
As simple as it sounds, any jot can be forwarded as a tweet to Twitter using your Twitter account. This is not intended as a replacement for a Twitter client, nor does TJ really act as a Twitter client, except to allow tweets to be posted. If you’re a big Twitter user, you’ll think of a reason to use this feature, as many of you have told us how much you rely on Twitter. Just as TJ supports a kind of mental jotting, or talking-to-self process, extending this to Twitter enables you to channel some of those thoughts and jots to your Twitter community (followers).
Future Community Features
We’re going to be adding yet more features to enhance the community benefits of using ThumbJot. Our aim isn’t to create communities or support social networking. Our aim is to enhance jotting. Some jots naturally involve others, either explicitly or implicitly. We see the value is in sharing some of these jots with others as you write them and in raw (unedited, unconsidered) form. Twitter already supports that kind of idea - rough and ready ‘thought streaming’ with others. ThumbJot brings a similar experience to the world of jotting. Share ideas and turn them instantly into conversations, thereby adding instant value to your jots.
